Turin Gallatin DB Dual Boiler Espresso Machine with PID and Flow Control

Turin Gallatin DB Dual Boiler Espresso Machine with PID and Flow Control

Ever wish you could steer a shot instead of just pulling it?

The Turin Gallatin DB puts the controls in your hands. This 58mm E61 dual boiler is built for home baristas who want to dial in every part of an extraction and see what a change does to the cup.

Brew and steam don’t compete on this machine. A 1-liter stainless steel brew boiler and a 1-liter stainless steel steam boiler run independently, so you can set the brew temperature the coffee calls for. There’s no need to guess at it by watching steam-boiler pressure. Light roast one morning and a darker roast the next? Adjust and pull again.

Then there’s the shot itself. The group-mounted flow-control paddle lets you change water delivery mid-extraction. Pre-infuse gently, ramp up the flow, then taper off at the end. The group pressure gauge shows you the result as it happens, so every adjustment teaches you something. The Italian Fluid-o-Tech rotary pump keeps it all smooth and quiet, with none of the buzz of a vibration pump. Run it from the reservoir, or go direct-water if you want a plumbed setup.

It’s the most control-oriented model in the Gallatin family, made for people who love the process as much as the espresso.

Ready to take command of your shots? Add the Turin Gallatin DB to your cart and start dialing in your best espresso yet.

Why Choose the Gallatin DB?

Independent dual PID control

Separate boilers let you adjust brew and steam conditions independently. That is useful when moving among light, medium and dark roasts or changing steam performance for different milk-drink volumes.

E61 group with flow control

The thermosiphon-heated E61 group provides a familiar prosumer lever workflow. Use the paddle for gentle puck saturation, a conventional full-flow shot or a declining-flow finish. Flow profiling expands your options, but accurate grinding, dose and distribution remain the foundation.

Rotary pump and flexible water supply

Run the machine from its 1.7-liter reservoir or connect it to a properly treated water line. The rotary pump suits a plumbed installation, and a manual selector preserves the option to move the machine later.

Simultaneous brewing and steaming

The two boilers allow espresso extraction and milk steaming at the same time. A three-hole steam tip is designed to aerate and roll milk into fine microfoam for cappuccinos, flat whites and lattes.

Repeatable digital controls

The display provides boiler settings, programmable pre-infusion, a shot timer and standby or economy controls without removing the tactile E61 brew lever.

Daily Workflow and Buyer Fit

Allow the boiler, heavy E61 group and portafilter to become thoroughly warm. Dose freshly ground coffee, distribute evenly, tamp level and lock in the portafilter. Begin with full flow and use a scale and timer to evaluate yield. After the basic recipe is stable, experiment with a low-flow saturation phase, then increase flow through the main extraction. Record dose, yield, time, temperature and paddle position so a good result can be repeated.

The Gallatin DB best suits an enthusiast who prepares straight espresso and milk drinks, wants direct control of both boiler temperatures, and expects to experiment with pre-infusion or flow. The Gallatin R is a closer alternative when rotary-pump quietness and profiling matter but independent boilers do not. The Gallatin V is the value choice for a more straightforward HX workflow.

What to Check in a Brew-and-Steam Demonstration

The Gallatin DB’s separate boilers allow simultaneous brewing and steaming and independent temperature settings. Actual warm-up, steaming time and recovery depend on starting temperature, milk quantity, settings and the pace of preparation.

• Warm-up: distinguish the boiler reaching its setpoint from the E61 group and portafilter being fully heat-soaked.
• Milk drinks: compare the same milk weight, starting temperature, pitcher and finishing temperature across several drinks.
• Espresso: record coffee, dose, yield, grind and brew temperature; keep the flow-control routine consistent while assessing repeatability.

The video below shows the machine’s operation. No controlled warm-up, steam-time or temperature-stability benchmark is supplied here, so boiler specifications should not be read as measured performance results.

Gallatin V vs Gallatin R vs Gallatin DB

All three Gallatin machines use a 58mm E61 group and can brew espresso while steaming milk. The important differences are boiler architecture, pump type, direct-water suitability, flow control and how independently the user can manage brew and steam temperature.

Which Gallatin should you choose?

Choose the Gallatin V if you primarily want strong espresso and milk-drink performance with a classic E61 workflow at the lowest cost in the lineup.

Choose the Gallatin R if a quieter rotary pump, direct plumbing and manual flow control matter, but independent brew and steam boilers do not.

Choose the Gallatin DB if you want independent brew and steam temperature control or expect to work with different roast levels and flow-profile recipes.

Water, Installation and Maintenance

Before first use, follow the supplied priming instructions and confirm that the water-source selector matches the reservoir or plumbed configuration. A direct connection should include suitable filtration, pressure management and leak protection. Use espresso water that limits scale without being completely demineralized. Backflush with water routinely, use espresso-machine detergent at the interval in the manual, and purge and wipe the steam wand immediately after milk use. Contact Espresso Outlet before aggressive descaling or internal repair.

Direct-water installation checklist

• Confirm that the machine is configured for the intended reservoir or direct-water source before startup.
• Use espresso-equipment filtration selected for the local water chemistry; filtration and softening are not interchangeable.
• Provide an accessible shutoff valve, appropriate pressure regulation and leak protection.
• Confirm the supplied machine fitting before purchasing adapters. Do not assume an existing braided line will connect directly.
• Plan the drip-tray drain route and verify local installation requirements before placing the machine permanently.

If replacing another plumbed espresso machine, compare the existing hose thread, incoming pressure and drain arrangement with the Gallatin connection before ordering adapters.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Gallatin DB a true dual boiler machine?

Yes. It has a dedicated 1-liter brew boiler and a separate 1-liter steam boiler with independent PID settings.

Can it brew and steam at the same time?

Yes. The independent boilers support simultaneous extraction and steaming.

Does it have flow control?

Yes. A manual paddle on the E61 group changes flow during extraction, and the group pressure gauge helps show the result.

Can it be plumbed in?

Yes. It switches between its 1.7-liter reservoir and a direct water source. Proper treatment and installation are important.

How is the DB different from the Gallatin R?

Both use rotary pumps and provide flow control. The DB has separate brew and steam boilers; the R uses one 2-liter heat-exchange boiler.

What size portafilter does it use?

It uses a standard 58mm portafilter and includes single- and double-shot baskets.

How long should an E61 machine warm up?

Plan for a complete grouphead warm-up, not only a hot boiler reading. The portafilter, group and cups all benefit from heat-soak time.

What water should I use?

Use water suitable for espresso equipment: low in scale-forming hardness but not completely demineralized. Water chemistry affects flavor and equipment life.

Is a grinder included?

No. Pair it with an espresso grinder offering fine, repeatable adjustment.

What warranty is included?

It includes a one-year Espresso Outlet warranty and support for machines purchased from Espresso Outlet.

Is this intended for U.S. power?

Yes. This is the 120V U.S. model and ships to U.S. addresses only.
